And if you prefer to take things a little easier, from the beginning of June until mid-September the chair lift will carry you up the mountain from Saturday through Monday.
Close to the Hochsitz and the mountain lift station, in recent months a small lake along with the HochSEEsitz has been created, reachable via a number of hiking routes as well as rafts. Fishing there for "larch trout" is especially good fun for the kids!
Standing as much as 3-4 meters tall, each animal is also a hut where the kids can playfully learn all kinds of fascinating facts about foxes, badgers, chamois, deer, grouse and marmots.
All of the animals are located close to the Hochsitz and Berghof - easy for the whole family to reach.
A different way to conquer a summit! Feel your way up the mountain with your feet with 19 interactive stations along the path, allowing you to experience slabs of stone, gravel from a stream, spruce cones, wood chips, soil, mud and wood in different variations. This 700 m long path leads from the Riesneralm-Hochsitz through a series of gentle switchbacks to the top of the Riesneralm-Krispen. Actual walking time: about 20 minutes (depending on how long you choose to stop at each station).
Krispini, the Riesneralm ghost, gives clever kids lots of puzzles to solve at 9 stations between the Berghof and the Hochsitz. If you enter all of the answers into your treasure map correctly, once you get to the end you will have earned the right to pull out a hidden treasure from the treasure chest.
A curious collection at the Berghof is certain to astonish you. Exhibits include the history of Donnersbachwald, hunting & forestry, and even space travel. Stop by for lots of fun surprises!
From the "Hochsitz" lookout platform, you can enjoy the magical 360° panoramic views, accompanied by traditional snacks and a glass of good Styrian wine.
At our own hut, the Oxenalm, we serve specialties featuring Styrian beef along with many other mouthwatering treats.
Both huts are open from Saturday-Monday.
